1. SCALE App

Context: Launch of the SCALE App.

Background Details:

  • The leather sector is a labour-intensive sector and plays a crucial role in generating employment. There are approximately 44 lakh people currently employed in the sector.
  • The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI), National Skill Development Council (NSDC), and Leather Sector Skill Council will collaborate with each other to establish Common Facility and Skilling Centres across the country.
  • Minister of Education and Skill Development launched the SCALE App.

SCALE App:

  • SCALE stands for Skill Certification Assessment for Leather Employees. It is an android app developed by the Leather Skill Sector Council.
  • The objective of the app is to provide a one-stop solution for the skilling, assessment, learning, and employment needs of the leather industry.
  • The purpose of the app is to transform the way skill development programs are designed and delivered among the trainees of the leather industry.
  • It allows interested individuals from all age groups to access online classes. These classes are live-streamed from the state-of-the-art SCALE studio.

2. AIBD extends India’s Presidency for one more year

Context: The 47th AIBD Annual Gathering was held in New Delhi.

Details:

  • Asia-pacific Institute of Broadcasting Development (AIBD) has unanimously expanded the period of India’s presidency by one more year. 
  • The 47th AIBD Annual Gathering and 20th AIBD General Conference and Associated Meetings were held in New Delhi, India. The meetings specifically focused on the topic of “Building a Stronger Future of Broadcasting in post-pandemic era”. 
  • The members of the forum also finalized a five-year plan for cooperative activities and exchange programmes in the meeting.
  • The members also took the pledge to cooperate with each other on agendas like technological advancement, sustainable broadcasting environment, content creation, etc.

Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD):

  • AIBD was established in 1977 under the auspices of UNESCO.
  • It is a regional inter-governmental organization catering to member states of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in the field of electronic media development. 
  • Its aim is to ensure a cohesive, vibrant, and holistic electronic media environment through policy and resource development in the region of Asia-Pacific.
  • AIBD comprises 26 countries as full-time members. These countries are in turn represented by nearly 43 organizations. Moreover, there are 52 affiliate members.
