CTET Exam Pattern 2023

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is an open exam for teachers conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It is a national-level exam that determines the eligibility of the candidates who are aspiring to be appointed as teachers. The examination is conducted biannually for teachers willing to teach grades 1 to 8.

The rationale of conducting CTET examination for appointment of teachers include

  • To bring quality teacher recruitment in the process by assessment of national teaching standards.
  • To induce enhancement of teacher training and knowledge by institutions in order to improve performance standards.
  • Enhances teachers’ confidence in teaching and knowledge sharing.

CTET Exam Pattern 2023

To enhance the quality and standards of the appointed teachers, the CTET exam pattern would emphasize on the integration of digital pedagogy and digital literacy in the papers. The CTET question papers will be designed to assess critical thinking, application, conceptual understanding, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities rather than factual knowledge. The candidate will be assessed on their pedagogic knowledge, subject knowledge, and other teaching dimensions.

From the 28th of December 2022 to the 7th of February 2023, CBSE conducted the CTET online exam in various cities. The CTET exam pattern consists of two papers, one for each grade level.

  • Paper-I for Primary Level (Grade I to V)
  • Paper-II for Elementary Level (Grade VI to VIII)
  • Candidates who are aspiring to teach students from Grade I to VIII, should qualify in both the CTET examination papers.

CTET exam paper II includes 5 sections as mentioned in the table. However, candidates can choose four. Language I, II, and child development and pedagogy are compulsory sections. Candidates who aspire to teach Social Science should attempt the social science section while those who aspire to teach Math and Science should attempt this section. Question Pattern and Standard for CTET Exam

Some of the important information on question patterns and standards for CTET exams include

  • Questions in Math, Science, and Social Science will include questions about the application of various concepts covered in the subject. The question standard is based on the prescribed level and would assess problem-solving abilities as well as the pedagogical principles underlying the subject application.
  • Questions related to Child Development and Pedagogy will be based on teaching and learning methodologies applied for 6-11 year age groups for paper-I and 11-14 years for paper-II. The questions are designed to assess the candidate’s understanding of the provision of quality learning, learner interaction, and qualities of a good facilitator.
  • The difficulty level of paper I will be to the Secondary stage and for paper II up to the Senior Secondary stage.
