Before going through the list of UGC NET subjects and codes let us first take a quick glance at the important facts related to the NET exam –Â
- The UGC NET exam comprises two papers- Paper 1 and Paper 2.
- The medium of the UGC NET question paper is in English and Hindi languages only.
- Candidates are allotted a cumulative exam duration of three hours for both papers.
- There is no break in between the papers.Â
- All the questions in Paper 1 and Paper 2 are compulsory.Â
- The questions in both papers will be objective in nature. This means all the questions in UGC NET June 2022 will be of Multiple Choice type (MCQs).
- The question will have 4 options, candidates must select the most appropriate answer.
- For each correct answer in both the papers candidates will be awarded 2 marks.
- There is no negative marking for incorrect responses.
- No marks will be awarded for questions left blank or unanswered.
- If there is any dropped question, all the candidates will be awarded the marks for that question.
- If any question is found incorrect or ambiguous, then the candidates who have marked the correct answers will be awarded with the prescribed marks for that question.

UGC NET Subjects List
The UGC NET exam comprises two papers – Paper 1 and Paper 2. The syllabus for both papers is completely different.Â
UGC NET Paper 1 is common and mandatory for all candidates. However, UGC NET Paper-II is a subject-based paper.
The subject for paper 2 is chosen by the candidate. Candidates need to appear in the subject of their Post-Graduation only.Â
Candidates, whose Post Graduation subject is not covered in the list of NET subjects, can appear in a related subject.
Candidates need to choose the medium carefully while filling the UGC NET application form.Â
While filling out the application form, candidates need to choose the subject of the UGC NET Paper 2 from the given options of 83 subjects (earlier 82 subjects were there, this year a new subject Hindu Studies, has been added to the NET exam).Â
The NTA UGC NET Paper-II covers the entire syllabus of the master’s degree subject selected by the candidates.Â
