The UPSC released the final results of the 2017-18 civil services exam. A total of 990 candidates were recommended to the services this time. The list of successful candidates includes 29 physically challenged people as well.
Rank 1 was bagged by Telangana native Durishetty Anudeep. Anudeep is a serving Indian Revenue Service Officer and an alumni of BITS Pilani from where he completed his BTech (Electronics and Instrumentation). The second rank holder is Anu Kumari, mother to a four-year old, and an MBA from IMT, Nagpur. Saumya Sharma, a physically disabled candidate has secured an impressive 9th rank.
As usual, the UPSC result brings an eclectic mix of candidates from various backgrounds and from different corners of the country. Approximately 10 lakh people had applied to take the UPSC CSE prelims this year. Out of that huge number, about half of them only actually appeared for the exam. 13,366 candidates qualified for the IAS mains exam and out of this number, 2568 cleared it to qualify for the UPSC personality test. Finally, although the UPSC had declared a vacancy of 980 seats, 990 made it to the coveted final list. The UPSC is also maintaining a Reserve List of 132 candidates.
