1. G20 FCBD

Prelims – 1st G20 FCBD (Finance and Central Bank Deputies) Meeting

Context – India hosts the 1st G20 FCBD meeting under the G20 India Presidency in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Details

  • 1st G20 FCBD marks the beginning of the Finance Track under the Indian Presidency. Over 160 foreign delegates participated in the meeting including deputies from G20 member countries, international organisations and invitee countries.
  • Seven discussions with two side events were held. The delegates also witnessed the traditional and contemporary culture of Karnataka through different art forms.

  • The aim of the meeting was to seek the views of G20 members on India’s G20 Finance Track priorities for 2023 across various workstreams. 
  • Two side events were held-
    • Strengthening MDBs (Multilateral Development Banks) to address Shared Global Challenges of the 21st century. 
    • Role of Central Banks in Managing Climate Risk and in Green Financing.
  • Reflecting the theme of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” and “One Earth, One Family, One Future”, the discussions stressed issues relating to the global economy and risks, strengthening  MDBs (Multilateral Development Banks), managing global debt vulnerabilities, financing climate action and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and building resilient, inclusive and sustainable cities of tomorrow.

2. National Energy Conservation Day

Syllabus – GS3, Conservation, environmental pollution and degradation, environmental impact assessment.

Prelims – National Energy Conservation Day, December 14.

Context – Celebrating National Energy Conservation Day.

About – 

  • National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated in India every year on 14 December and the day is organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) which operates under the Ministry of Power. The main aim of the celebration is to present India’s achievements in the field of cost-efficient energy production and resource conservation.

Details

  • The Ministry of Power celebrated National Energy Conservation Day. On the occasion, Smt Droupadi Murmu felicitated the winners of the 32nd National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) and the 2nd National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards (NEEIA).
    • The National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) are given to the industrial units of various sectors of the Indian economy for their exceptional achievements in energy savings.
    • The National Energy Efficiency Innovation Awards (NEEIA) is to boost Energy Efficiency through innovative measures. 
  • The President launched the “EV Yatra” web portal and its mobile phone application to encourage the adoption of E-mobility in the country.
  • The BEE developed a mobile application to facilitate navigation to the nearest public EV (Electric Vehicle) charging station and a website to provide information regarding various central and state-level initiatives to encourage e-mobility in the country.

3. Exercise Kazind 2022

Syllabus – GS3, Various Security forces and agencies and their mandate. 

Prelims – 6th Edition of Kazind 2022.

Context – Indo- Kazakhstan Joint Military Exercise Kazind, 2022 to commence at Umroi, Meghalaya. 

Details –

  • Kazind 2022 is scheduled to commence at Umroi, Meghalaya (15th – 28th December). It is conducted alternatively in India and Kazakhstan.
  • Kazind – the joint annual training exercise was instituted as Ex. Prabal Dostyk in 2016 and later was renamed as Ex. Kazind in 2018.
  • The Kazind Exercise aims to promote regional security and also foster bilateral relations between the two nations. The exercise is to build positive military relations, imbibe each other’s best practices and encourage the ability to operate together while undertaking joint terrorist operations under the UN peace enforcement mandate.
  • Kazakhstan army soldiers comprising troops from the Regional Command, South and Indian Army soldiers from 11 Gorkha Rifles will be participating in the Kazind exercise.
