1. Centre State Science Conclave

Syllabus – GS 3, Science and Technology- developments and their applications.

Prelims – Two Day Centre- State Science Conclave.

Context – First of its kind Centre- State Science Conclave at Science City, Ahmedabad.

Details

  • The first of its kind conclave was inaugurated by Shri Narendra Modi via video conferencing. It was organised at Science City, Ahmedabad.
  • It aims to strengthen the coordination and collaboration mechanism to build a robust science, technology and innovation (STI) ecosystem in the country.
  • It included sessions on-
  • STI (Science Technology & Innovation) Vision 2047. 
  • Future – Growth Pathways & Vision for STI in states.
  • Health – Digital healthcare for all.
  • Agriculture – Technological interventions for improving farmers income. There is a need to adopt a holistic approach to ensure production, protection, and sustainability for the agricultural system. The adaptation of technologies like ICAR-FUSICONT, genome editing, use of nano fertilisers were discussed in the conclave.
  • Doubling Private Sector Investment in Research & Development by 2030.
  • Deep Ocean Mission and its relevance for coastal states/UTs.
  • Energy – Clean energy for all including S & T role in Hydrogen Mission.
  • Water – Innovation for production of portable drinking water including application of technologies like desalination

At the concluding session, Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, announced setting up of a dashboard to share the best technology practices between the centre and states.


2. Acharya Vinoba Bhave

Syllabus – GS 1, The Freedom Struggle — its various stages and important contributors/contributions from different parts of the country.

Prelims – Acharya Vinoba Bhave.

Details

  • The Prime minister, Shri Narendra Modi paid rich tributes to Acharya Vinoba Bhave on his Birth Anniversary.
  • The Prime Minister described his life as a manifestation of Gandhian Principles and he gave the clarion call of “Jai Jagat”.

About Acharya Vinoba Bhave

  • Vinayak Narahari Bhave was born on 11th September 1895, in Gagode village, Raigad, Maharashtra 
  • He was a great disciple of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • He was the founder of Bhoodan Yajna (Land-Gift Movement).
  • He was the first Indian to receive the Magsaysay award in 1958. The first Ramon Magsaysay Awards were given to five outstanding individuals, Vinoba Bhave was one among them   He was also awarded with  Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1983.
  • In 1940, he was chosen by Gandhi to be the first individual Satyagrahi against British rule.
  • Non- violence and compassion was the characteristic of his philosophy, he also campaigned against the slaughtering of cows.
  • Influenced by Gandhiji, he took up the cause of people who were referred to as Harijans by Gandhiji.
  • He died in 1982, Warda, Maharashtra.
