1. Hindi Diwas

Prelims – Hindi Diwas – 14th September.
Context – The Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah addressed Hindi Divas – 2022 celebrations and the Second All India Official Language Conference in Surat, Gujarat.
Details –
- On the occasion of the Hindi Diwas, Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the Second All India Official Language Conference (Akhil Bhartiya Rajbhasha Sammelan), Surat. Its first edition was held in 2021.
- Our Hon’ble Prime Minister has sown the seeds of education in our own language through the implementation of the National Education Policy, 2020.
- Mahatma Gandhi took pride in Hindi and said that Hindi is the language of our mind, patriotism and people.
- One has to learn the official language to understand the spirit of culture, history and literature of the place.
- Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s dream of Swaraj included raising his voice for self-language, self-religion and self-culture.
- On Hindi Diwas, “Hindi Shabd Sindhu”, the first edition of Hindi to Hindi comprehensive dictionary was launched.
- Swami Dayanand Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj, published his work Satyarth Prakash (Light of Truth) in Hindi.
- The leaders of our freedom movement believed that there is no Swaraj without Swadeshi and Swabhasha.
About Hindi Diwas –
- Every year 14th of September is celebrated as Hindi Diwas in India.
- Hindi was adopted as the official language of the Republic of India on 14th September 1949.
- Hindi is also an 8th Schedule language. Article 351 pertains to ‘Directive for Development of the Hindi Language’.

Syllabus – GS 2, Governance
Prelims – Swachhata Portal for the Special Campaign 2.0 with a focus on Swachhta and reducing pendency on Government.
Context – The Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launched Swachhata Portal for campaign 2.0 scheduled to begin on 2nd October.
Details –
- The portal is developed by DARPG (Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances) and is dedicated to Swachhata and reducing the pendency of work in government offices.
- The Special Campaign 2.0 will be held from 2nd October to 31st October 2022.
- 67,000 sites have been selected by GoI for the cleanliness campaign and the number is likely to increase to one lakh by 30th September.
- In the first Special Campaign in October 2021, only 6000 sites were identified for cleanliness. The activities included indoor and outdoor cleanliness campaigns, disposal of scrap, weeding out of outlived records and disposal of pending references from the Members of Parliament, State Governments, Inter-Ministerial references, Parliament Assurances and Public Grievances.
- The Special Campaign 2.0 will focus more on field/outstation offices in addition to the Ministries/Departments and their attached/subordinate offices and DARPG will oversee the implementation of the Special campaign 2.0.
Swachh Bharat Mission was launched by the Prime Minister on 2nd October 2014. It has now become a Jan Andolan.
3. USBRL (Udhampur – Srinagar – Baramulla Rail Link) Project
Syllabus – GS 3, Infrastructure – Railways.
Prelims – USBRL Project.
Context -The project has brought connectivity, employability and prosperity to the people of the region.
About USBRL –
- The Project was declared a national project in 2002. It involves the construction of a large number of tunnels and bridges in highly rugged and mountainous terrain with difficult and complex Himalayan geology.
- The length of the project is 272 km from Udhampur to Baramulla via Srinagar. (UT of Jammu & Kashmir).
- The project involves 38 tunnels and 927 bridges.
- The iconic Chenab Bridge constructed in the Reasi district of the UT of Jammu & Kashmir is the highest railway bridge in the world. Its height is 359 m above the river bed and its length is 1315 m.
- The length of the USBRL is 272 km and has been divided into 4 sections –
- Udhampur – Katra, leg 1, length 25 km.
- Katra – Banihal, leg 2, length 111 km.
- Banihal- Qazigund, leg 3, length 18 km.
- Qazigund – Baramulla, leg 4, length 118 km.
- The first three phases of the project have been completed. Work on the 111 Km section Katra-Banihal, the most difficult portion due to its geology and extensive riverine system with deep gorges, is underway.
