The Food Corporation of India (FCI) conducts exams for various posts like the General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Medical officer etc. The eligibility criteria in terms of educational qualification, age limit etc are given below. The FCI released the notification for the posts of medical officer and assistant general manager in general administration, law, technical and accounts in July 2021, whereas the FCI exams for the post of General Manager were last notified in 2019.

Eligibility Criteria for FCI Assistant General Manager and Medical Officer Posts

The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has prescribed certain eligibility criteria for the posts of Assistant General Manager and Medical officer in its notification. Candidates should carefully go through the age limit, experience, educational qualification and other eligibility criteria before applying for the FCI exam. More information on the eligibility criteria for various posts is given below.

  • Nationality

Eligibility criteria related to the nationality of candidates who plan to apply for the FCI Assistant Manager and Medical officer posts is given in the table below.

Nationality
A candidate for appointment in the service of the Food Corporation of India (FCI) should be:
1 A Citizen of India, or
2 A subject of Nepal, or
3 A subject of Bhutan, or
4 A Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
5 A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka and East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.
Note:

A candidate who belongs to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) given above should be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been provided by the Government of India

  • Age Limit

Candidates should have attained the age of 18 years for initial appointment to any posts given in the table below. The maximum/upper age limit for various posts notified by the FCI is given below.

  3. B.Tech degree or B.E degree in Food Science & Technology or Food Technology or Food Processing Technology or Food Process Engineering or Food Processing or Food Preservation Technology from a recognized University/ an institution approved by the AICTE with a minimum of 55% marks.

  4. B.Tech. degree or BE degree in Agricultural Engineering from a recognized University/an institution approved by the AICTE with a minimum of 55% marks.
    or
  5. B.Tech degree or B.E degree in Bio-Technology or Industrial Biotechnology or Biotechnology or Bio-Chemical Engineering or Agricultural Biotechnology from a recognized University/ an institution approved by the AICTE with minimum 55% marks;

    Note: In the case of SC/ST/ PwBD candidates, the minimum percentage of marks shall be 50% instead of 55%.
3 Assistant General Manager (Accounts) Associate membership of

1. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India;

or

2. The Institute of Cost Accountants of India; or

3. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India

4 Assistant General Manager (Law) Full-time Degree in Law from a recognized University/Institute: and

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years‟ experience as a practising Lawyer in Civil matters representing his clients in at least 3 cases in every year or 5 years‟ experience as a Law Officer in Central Government/State Government/Central Government PSU/State Government PSU in the IDA scale of Rs.16400-40500 or CDA scale of Rs. 9300- 34800 (Grade Pay 5400) (or corresponding in pre/post revised scales)

Note:

1. Combination of experience as a Lawyer and Law officer is permitted for determining eligibility.

2. The experience as a Lawyer is to be evidenced by Enrolment Certificate as an Advocate along with certified copies of Vakalatnama filed by the candidate or self–attested copies of cause list or self–attested copies of Court Orders/Judgements or self–attested copies of case status obtained from the respective court websites, as proof of appearing as an Advocate for his client in respect of at least 3 cases in each year of the qualifying experience, which is verifiable from the concerned Court, reflecting the name of the candidate as in the Application form.

3. Candidates working as Law officers are required to furnish a certificate of experience along with PayScale specifying the Basic pay in the service in the Central Government/State Government/Central Government PSU/State Government PSU for the relevant period, apart from proof of Educational qualification, age.

5 Medical Officer M.B.B.S. (Registered and completed the prescribed House Surgery) (either completed the Internship in 1962 or undergone Internment and a compulsory surgency for a period of one year. Rotary House Surgency for one year).

Experience: 3 years‟ experience in any organised Medical Institution, preferably in a labour organisation.

[Experience as House Surgeon/Resident Doctor while pursuing MD Course would reckon as experience, provided it is acquired after completing Internship.]

There is relaxation of the upper age for candidates who belong to certain categories, the details of which are given below.

Note:

  • FCI gives relaxation of age limits and other concessions to candidates who belong to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and other categories as directed by the Government of India from time to time.
  • There is relaxation for departmental (FCI) candidates who have three (03) years’ work experience as Category-III or Category-IV in the Food Corporation of India (FCI), with respect to, the condition of minimum percentage of marks in graduate degree i.e. educational qualifications for the post of General Manager.
  • There is age relaxation for PwBD candidates irrespective of the fact that the post is reserved (for PwBD) or not, provided the post is identified for PwBD.
  • A PwBD candidate can apply, against vacancies notified by the FCI, for a post even if there is no vacancy reserved for PwBD but that post has been identified as suitable for PwBD. However, such candidates will be considered for selection to such post by General standard of merit.
  • Reservation and age relaxation is not applicable to OBC candidates who are part of the creamy layer.
  • The Ex-Servicemen and Commissioned Officers including Emergency Commissioned Officers (ECOs) or ShortService Commissioned Officers (SSCOs) who have rendered at least five years military service as on 01st August, 2019 and have been released
  1. On completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from 01st August, 2019) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency; or
  2. On account of physical disability attributable to military service or on invalidment, candidates will be allowed maximum relaxation of five years in the upper age limit.
  • The age is additionally relaxable by 5 years for those candidates who had ordinarily been domiciled in Jammu and Kashmir during the period 01-01-1980 to 31-12-1989. Candidates who aim to avail age relaxation under this category have to submit a certificate from the District Magistrate within whose jurisdiction they had ordinarily resided or any other authority designated in this behalf by the Government of Jammu & Kashmir to the effect that they had ordinarily been domiciled in Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 01-01-1980 to 31-12-1989. This relaxation shall remain in force till the 31st day of December, 2019 (Vacancies for the General Manager posts were notified in 2019)  and there shall be no further extension beyond the said period.
