The Staff Selection Commission mentions the detailed SSC JE eligibility in the official notification of the exams. Candidates have to meet the eligibility conditions and basic requirements to appear for the Junior Engineer exam.

Eligible candidates should hold the minimum SSC JE qualification (educational) pertaining to the relevant post. As a matter of fact, every candidate should have at least passed the Matriculation/ Secondary Examination Certificate or an equivalent degree from a recognised Board.

SSC JE Eligibility – Age Limit

The criteria for the age limit depend on the respective post. Candidates who are interested to take the SSC Junior Engineer exam should be of at least 18 years of age and not more than 32 years.

SSC JE Age Relaxation

Given below is the permissible age relaxation for reserved categories under the rules prescribed by Govt. of India. Check the table below for more details:

Ex-Servicemen (General) 3 years after deduction of military service rendered in Armed forces from the actual age
Defence Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof 3 years
Defence Personnel disabled in operation during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof (SC/ ST ) 8 years
Persons who had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 01.01.1980 to 31.12.1989 5 years

SSC JE Eligibility – Nationality

SSC JE applicants should be the citizens of any of the below-mentioned regions. They are eligible to take the exam as per the SSC JE Notification if they fulfil any of the criteria of nationality as listed below:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who migrated to India before 1st January 1962, with the intention of residing in India permanently, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Burma, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Uganda, Kenya, the United Republic of Tanzania (Formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Malawi, Ethiopia, Zaire, Zambia, and Vietnam with the intention of settling in India permanently.

      The qualification requirement is a Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University or Institution. Hence you are eligible to apply for the exam.
