How to Apply for UPSC Online?

The Union Public Service Commission invites applications from the eligible candidates for Civil Services Examination once a year to recruit for various prestigious posts. The candidates can apply online through the official website – https://upsconline.nic.in/.

UPSC CSE Registration 2022

The UPSC Notification for the year 2022 was released on 2nd February 2022. The registration process began on 2nd February 2022 and the last date to apply has been mentioned as 22nd February 2022 till 18:00 hours. There are three phases in the Civil Services examination and to know about each level in detail, check the following links:

How to Apply Online for UPSC Prelims?

The candidates are required to apply online using the website http://www.upsconline.nic.in. 

  • The Persons with Benchmark Disabilities in the categories of blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected – BA) and cerebral palsy will be provided with the facility of scribe if desired by the person.
  • The candidates appearing in Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2022 will be required to indicate information such as 
    • Detail of Centres for Civil Services (Main) Examination
    • Optional subject to be selected for the examination,
    • Medium of examination for Civil Services (Main) Examination, 
    • Medium of Examination for Optional Subject if he/she chooses any Indian Language as the Medium of Examination for Civil Services (Main) Examination and 
    • Compulsory Indian Language for Civil Services (Main) Examination at the time of filling up the online application itself. 
  • No request for changes in these details once the online application is submitted shall be entertained by the Commission. 
  • The candidates applying for the Civil Services Examination should ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility conditions for admission to the Examination. Their admission at all the stages of Examination for which they are admitted by the Commission, viz. Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, Civil Services (Main) Examination – either Written or the Interview/Personality Test – will be purely provisional, subject to their satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.
  • While filling in his/her Application Form, the candidate should carefully decide about his/her choice of centre for the Examination.

Note –

  • All candidates, whether already in Government Service, Government owned industrial undertakings or other similar organizations or in private employment, should submit their applications direct to the Commission. 

How to Apply Online for UPSC Mains?

The candidates qualified on the basis of the result of the written part of the Examinations/Preliminary Examinations are required to fill the Detailed Application Form Online.

  • The candidates have to create registration accounts and the following details have to be filled by the candidates while registration.
    • Name (as recorded in the matriculation/secondary examination certificate), 
    • Roll Number (in six digit format)
    • Date of Birth (as recorded in the matriculation/secondary examination certificate) and 
    • E-mail address 
  • Online DAF-I has SIX modules as indicated above, namely – Personal, Educational Information, Parental Information, Employment Information, Upload documents and Final Submission.
  • The candidates are required to fill all the modules completely before finally submitting the Form Online, using the Final Submission Module.
  • Documents to be submitted while filling DAF-I application are as follows:
    • Scanned Copy of proof of date of birth
    • Scanned Copy of certificate in support of claim for age relaxation
    • Scanned Copy of Certificate in support of claim to belong to SC / ST / OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/ EWS
    • Scanned Copy of certificate in support of claim to being PwBD
    • Scanned Copy of the certificate of educational qualifications (including a copy of recognition letter / equivalence certificate from AIC/UGC, if applicable)
    • Other documents in special cases (where applicable). 

Note – 

  • The information earlier given by candidates in the application form for the Preliminary Examination will be cross-checked with the information given by them in the application form for the Main Examination. If there are any serious discrepancies, candidates are liable to be refused admission to the Main Examination in such cases. 
  • The Roll No. of the candidate for the Main Examination will be the same as the Roll Number given to him/ her for the Preliminary Examination.

How to Apply Online for UPSC Interview?

  • All the candidates who qualify for Personality Test/Interview on the basis of Result of Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2022 will be required to submit their Order of Preferences for Participating Services through an online Detailed Application Form (DAF) -II.
  • The candidates have to choose Order of Preferences for Zone(s)/State(s) Cadre (for IAS/IPS) through online Detailed Application Form – II. 
  • This DAF – II will be made available to the qualified candidates of written examination of Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2022.

Note – 

The candidates qualified for interview based on the results of the written part of the Main examination will be required to produce the originals of the certificates. Failure to submit the required certificates in original at that time will entail cancellation of candidature.

The UPSC 2022 form was out on 2nd February and the commission has notified that candidates can fill the form till 22nd February 2022.

How much time is given to the candidates for applying UPSC online?

A candidate will be given approximately 3 weeks time to apply online. He/she can fill up the online application by following the instructions provided on the website for filling up the online application.
