1. 1st All India Annual State Ministers’ Conference on Water

Context – Two-day Conference of All India Annual State Ministers’ Conference on water in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Details

  • Shri Narendra Modi addressed the 1st of All India Annual State Ministers’ Conference on water via video conferencing and highlighted the unprecedented work done by India in areas of water security. The PM said, “Water Vision @2047 is an important dimension of the journey of Amrit Kaal for the next 25 years.” The Prime Minister also suggested the states adopt the Centre’s Namami Gange Mission as a template and start similar campaigns for the conservation of rivers.
  • Ministers of Water Resources from all states attended the 1st All India Annual State Ministers’ Conference on Water.
  • Water is a state subject as per the Constitution of India and therefore, it is the state’s efforts for water conservation that will help in attaining the collective goals of the country.
  • The objective of the conference is to bring together key policymakers for discussions on ways to harness water resources for sustainable development and human development.
  • Citing an example of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, PM Modi asked the states to involve the public in campaigns related to water conservation.
  • The GoI has laid great emphasis on the circular economy- when treated water is reused, fresh water is conserved and it benefits the entire ecosystem.
  • PM Modi also highlighted the ‘Per Drop More Crop ’ campaign that began under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY) and informed that more than 70 lakh hectares of land in the country have been brought under micro-irrigation so far.

2. Offshore Security Coordination Committee (OSCC)

Context – 134th meeting of the OSCC.

Details

  • The 134th meeting of the Offshore Security Coordination Committee (OSCC) was held under the Chairmanship of Director General, Indian Coast Guard,  V S Pathania at Varanasi,  2023. The participants reviewed the preparedness and effectiveness of the security of India’s offshore installations. 
  • The OSCC was constituted in 1978 to ensure the smooth and effective functioning of offshore security arrangements. It is the apex body for reviewing and evaluating Offshore Security in India. The Committee comprises members drawn from the Indian Coast Guard, Navy, Air Force, IB, State Police, DG Shipping and ONGC to examine issues related to the safety and security of offshore assets.
