1. 7th International Dharma Dhamma conference

Context: Seventh International Dharma Dhamma Conference was inaugurated in Bhopal.

Details:

  • The 7th International Dharma Dhamma Conference was inaugurated by President Smt. Droupadi Murmu in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
  • The conference is organized by the India Foundation in collaboration with the Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies.
  • The President said that the concept of Dharma-Dhamma has been the basic voice of Indian consciousness. She further highlighted that in Indian tradition it is said, “Dharyate anen iti dharmah” – That which supports is dharma.
  • It was further said that the main message of Eastern Humanism (represented by Buddhism) is the Progress of individuals and society with the spirit of friendship, compassion, non-violence, and freedom from attachment and hatred.

2. Deakin University becomes the first foreign university in India

Prelims: First Foreign University in India.

Context: Deakin University has received the approval to establish its branch in India.

Details:

  • Deakin University becomes the First foreign university to be approved by International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) to establish an International Branch Campus (IBC) in GIFT City, Gujarat.
  • In Budget 2022-23, it was proposed that Foreign Universities and Institutions can offer courses in Financial Management, FinTech, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in GIFT City, free from domestic regulations.
  • In this direction, IFSCA in October 2022 notified IFSCA (Setting up and Operation of International Branch Campus and Offshore Education Centres) Regulations, 2022.
  • The university will offer the degree courses it offers in Australia in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Financial Management for both Indian and foreign students. The degree will be identical or similar to that offered in the home jurisdiction.

3. Dhara: An Ode to Indian Knowledge Systems

Context: Dhara, a unique initiative completed one year in February 2023.

Details:

  • “Dhara: Ode to Indian Knowledge Systems” is a unique and flagship initiative of the Ministry of Culture that was taken up as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav in February 2022 and has completed one year.
  • During year-long activities, it was successful in creating public awareness and devising a framework for the promotion and revival of multiple domains of Indian Knowledge Systems.
  • Dhara is based on the concept of the ‘continuous flow’ of knowledge and wisdom from one generation to another.
  • The initiative has been pivotal in awakening national consciousness for India’s civilizational heritage and knowledge systems.
  • It has also highlighted the need to capitalize on multimedia and multimodal representations of the Indian Knowledge System and the importance of understanding the diversity and depth of a knowledge domain.

4. Yuva Utsava-India@2047

Syllabus: GS 2, Polity and Governance.

Mains: Government policies and interventions.

Prelims: Yuva Utsav- India@2047.

Details:

  • Yuva Utsava-India@2047 is being launched on 4th March 2023 from Ropar, Punjab. A dashboard of Yuva Utsav will also be launched.
  • The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports through Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), is organizing the program.
  • The first phase of the event (from 4th to 31st March 2023) will be conducted in 150 districts of the country to celebrate youth power.
  • The celebration follows a three-tier format at District, State, and National levels.
  • The theme of the event will be Five Resolves (Panch Pran):
    • Goal of developed India
    • To remove any trace of slavery or colonial mindset
    • Take pride in our heritage and legacy
    • Unity and solidarity
    • Sense of duty among citizens
  • The youth in the age group of 15 to 29 years are eligible to participate in various competitions at different levels.
  • The components of Yuva Utsav are:
    • Young Artists Talent Hunt
    • Young Writers Talent Hunt
    • Photography Talent Hunt
    • Declamation Contest
    • Cultural Festival- Group events
