1. herSTART platform

Context: Bharat Startup Summit and Expo 2023.

Details:

  • The plenary session of the Bharat Startup Summit and Expo 2023 was organized by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 
  • It was informed during the event that the ‘herSTART’ platform has been created to promote women StartUps and to encourage women entrepreneurs. 
  • The government will also provide a monthly allowance of ₹20000 for up to one year for women-led StartUps.
  • It was highlighted that women-led business enterprises play a major role in society by generating employment, bringing in demographic changes, and inspiring the next generation of women.
  • Notably, at least 36 unicorns and potential unicorns in the country have at least one woman founder/co-founder.
  • The government of India is committed to creating an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs through schemes, networks, initiatives, etc.

2. PM MITRA (Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) Park sites

Context: Seven PM MITRA (Pradhan Mantri Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) Park sites announced.

Details:

  • Seven PM Mega Integrated Textile Regions and Apparel (PM MITRA) Parks for the Textile industry will be established in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
  • The execution of the project will be seen by the Ministry of textiles.
  • A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be established by the government.
  • Financial support of up to Rs. 500 crores per park in the form of Development Capital Support will be provided to the Park SPV.
  • A Competitive Incentive Support (CIS) of up to Rs 300 crore per park will also be provided for speedy implementation.
  • Moreover, State governments will ensure a contiguous and encumbrance-free land of at least 1000 acres and will provide basic utilities like reliable power supply, water, etc.

Benefits of PM MITRA Parks:

  • The Parks will create a world-class industrial infrastructure and would help in attracting large-scale investment. 
  • It would further encourage innovation and job creation.
  • It would enhance the competitiveness of the textile industry.
  • It would also help achieve economies of scale and attract global players to manufacture in India.
  • It will also offer training and research facilities for the industry.
  • It has the potential to attract investment worth Rs. 70000 crores and can generate nearly 20 lakhs jobs.

3. Sagar Parikrama Phase IV

Context: Sagar Parikrama Phase IV will take place in Karnataka.

Details:

  • Sagar Parikrama phase IV will take place in Karnataka (on the 18th and 19th of March 2023). It will cover 10 locations in three coastal districts.
    • Sagar Parikrama is an initiative that aims to resolve the issues of fishermen and uplift them economically through various schemes and programs implemented by the Government of India.
  • During the event, certificates associated with the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada scheme and Kisan Credit Cards will also be awarded to progressive fishermen. A song on Sagar Parikrama in Kannada will also be launched.
  • Sagar Parikrama emphasizes the sustainable balance between the utilization of marine fisheries resources, livelihood opportunities, and the protection of marine ecosystems.
  • It will bridge various gaps in fisher communities, develop fishing villages, and upgrade and create infrastructure like fishing harbours and fish landing centres.
  • Notably, the fish production from Karnataka contributed around 6.6% of India’s total fish production for the year 2021-22. It ranks third in total fish production (5th in Marine fish production 5th and 7th in Inland fish production).
  • The journey of Sagar Parikrama started with the theme of “KRANTI se SHANTI” as Phase-I on 5th March 2022 from Mandvi, Gujarat.

4. Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference

Syllabus: GS 2, Polity and Governance.

Mains: Government policies and interventions.

Prelims: Shree Anna.

Details:

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the ‘Global Millets (Shree Anna) Conference’ on 18th March 2023 in New Delhi.
  • A customized postal stamp and currency coin will also be unveiled in order to mark the International Year of Millets (IYM)  2023.
  • On 5th March 2021, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets (IYM).
  • The Food And Agriculture Organization organized an official Opening Ceremony for the International Year of Millets 2023 in Rome, Italy on 6th December 2022.
  • The government of India is taking various measures to achieve the objective of IYM 2023 and become a global hub of millets.
  • The year 2023 will witness several activities and initiatives both nationally and globally for increased adoption and promotion of millets.
  • The participants of the two-day conference include Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups, Schools, Agri-Universities, Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Gram Panchayats, Cooperative Institutions, Hotel Management Schools, Common Service Centres (CSC), etc.
