1. 32nd Edition of Indo-Thai Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT)

Context: The 32nd edition of CORPAT was conducted between the Indian Navy and the Royal Thai Navy. The CORPAT exercise establishes maritime links between the two countries with the major objective of keeping the Indian Ocean safe and secure for international trade.

Important Facts:

  • CORPAT includes the participation of the Indian naval ship Karmuk, indigenous Missile Corvette and His Majesty’s Thailand ship Tayanchon and Maritime Patrol Aircraft from both navies.
  • This maritime exercise augments the interoperability between navies and works towards preventing Illegal Unreported and Unregulated fishing, drug trafficking, maritime terrorism, armed robbery and piracy.

2. Vande – Bharatam Nritya Utsav

Context: Reflecting the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat and keeping the continuity of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Ministry of Culture has conducted an All-India dance competition which is titled ‘Vande Bharatam Nritya Utsav’.

 Significance:

  • This competition will offer a platform for dancers across the country to exhibit their skills and enlighten the cultural heritage of India. This competition will take place at district, state, zone, and national levels.

3. Prime Minister launched two customer-centric initiatives of RBI

Context: RBI came up with two customer-centric initiatives that were launched by the honourable Prime Minister. These initiatives include the RBI Retail Direct Scheme and the Reserve Bank – Integrated Ombudsman Scheme.

About the Initiatives :

  • RBI Retail Direct Scheme aims at increasing access to the government security market for retail investors. This creates multiple opportunities for investors to access securities issued by the GOI and state governments and maintain their online accounts with RBI, free of cost.
  • In order to improve the grievance redressal mechanism that resolves the customer complaints against the entities regulated by RBI, the Reserve Bank – Integrated Ombudsman Scheme has been introduced. The fundamental principle is based on ‘One Nation-One Ombudsman’ involving one portal, one email and one address that ensures a simple, hassle-free and customer-friendly method of communication in resolving grievances.

4. The ‘HarGharDastak’ Campaign

Context:  A national webinar was organised by the Union Health Ministry to propagate awareness about health especially about vaccination in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ministry employs media as a vital tool for spreading such awareness.

About the ‘HarGharDastak’ Campaign:

  • The campaign aims at ensuring that the entire adult population has completed the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and must complete the second dose.
  • As a part of the awareness campaign, the healthcare workers will provide a door to door vaccination facility for eligible people.
  • This determines the current vaccine delivery capacity of India which is a commendable achievement.
  • There will be multimedia information, education and communication to prevent rumours that promote vaccine hesitancy among the citizens.

5. Understanding Exoplanets Accurately

Context: The significant efforts of the Indian Astronomers create a methodology to understand the exoplanets in a better way. An algorithm was developed to enhance the accuracy of data from exoplanets by reducing the contamination by the earth’s surface and other instrumental disturbances.

About the study: 

  • A group of Indian astronomers at the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore has used a ground-based optical telescope to examine the physical properties of exoplanets with accuracy. The data would be given by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite.

6. National Sports Awards

Context: The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports announced that the awardees of the National Sports Awards will be felicitated by the President of India at Darbar Hall, Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Important Highlights:

  • Important awards that would be handed over include:
    • Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award for outstanding performance in the field of sports over a period of four years.
    • Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in sports and games over a period of four years and showing leadership, sportsmanship and sense of Discipline.
    • Dronacharya award will be given to outstanding coaches in sports and games.
    • Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime achievement in sports and games.
    • Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar is given to corporate entities, NGOs and important boards that promote sports in the state as well as at the national levels.
    • The Maulana Abul Kalam Azad trophy is given to universities in inter-university tournaments.
  • The nominations are considered by the selection committee that includes a retired judge of the Supreme Court, a famous sportsperson and a sports journalist and an administrator.
