1. Guru Nanak Jayanti

Context: On the special occasion of Parkash Purab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Prime Minister greeted the people and expounded the values and noble thoughts propagated by Guru Nanak. This year marks the 552nd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.

About Parkash Purab:

  • Guru Nanak was the founder of Sikhism and his birth anniversary is famous as Prakash Utsav. This is a very significant occasion for the entire Sikh community.
  • According to the Bikrami calendar Guru Nanak was born on Kartik Purnima (Puranmashi).
  • The celebration includes the continuous reading of the Guru Granth Sahib carried by the Palakhi (palanquin), prayers, chantings and community meals famous as langars.
  • The Sikh martial arts experts perform a ritual called ‘Gatka’. Gatka is a form of martial arts executed by Sikhs of Punjab and other related ethnic groups. This involves stick fights using wooden sticks with a leather fitted hilt.
  • After the community meal, the katha and kirtan continues and the celebration concludes with Gurbani at night. Gurbani refers to the compositions of several Sikh Gurus and writers of Guru Granth Sahib consisting of hymns. It is also believed that Gurbani is a sound that comes directly from the supreme entity.

2. Geographical Information System for Gram Panchayats

Context: The Ministry of Rural Development achieved a milestone in providing GIS facilities to 2 lakh gram panchayats. This accounts for 75% of Gram Panchayats wherein the GIS plans have been successfully completed.

 About GIS:

  • GIS is a computer-based tool for examining the geographical terrain and offers scientific methods of developmental works that are favourable in the area.
  • Common Database operations like queries, statistical analysis and geographical analysis with maps are enabled by the GIS technology.

Significance:

  • The convergence of technology with developmental programmes of the rural areas has given productive results in terms of progress at a faster pace.
  • MGNREGA, along with the GIS-based planning approach, has contributed to a greater extent at the grassroots level.
  • The CRISP – M tool assists the local communities with the understanding of climate change and its impact and delivers smart solutions. CRISP – M is a web and mobile phone-based GIS-aided tool that is created by FCDO’s (Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, UK) Infrastructure for Climate Resilient Growth. This ensures a climate-resilient approach in agriculture and other rural activities.
  • The Yuktdhara Geospatial Planning portal helps ministries to introspect the location of planned assets on a map with efficient monitoring. This provides a meticulous method to the developmental agendas. This portal is developed on the Bhuvan platform by the National Remote Sensing Centre, ISRO under the guidance of the MGNREGA division of the Ministry of Rural Development.
  • Besides, the Ministry of Rural Development has given training on the usage of GIS and Remote sensing.

3. Special Credit Linked Capital Subsidy Scheme

Context: In order to offer impetus to the service sector, the Special Credit Linked Capital Subsidy scheme was launched by the Union Minister for MSME at the North East Conclave.

About the scheme:

  • The scheme ensures a 25% capital subsidy for procurement of Plant & Machinery and other service equipment. This is done through institutional credit to the SC-ST medium and small enterprises without any restriction on technology upgradation.
  • The inclusive growth of MSME along with the active participation of the North East region has been emphasized to promote employment opportunities and boost entrepreneurship.

4. Ayush – 64

Context: The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) has facilitated the ease of meeting the demand for Ayush – 64 by transferring the technology of the drug to 46 companies.

About Ayush – 64:

  • It is an effective drug to treat mild and asymptomatic cases of COVID- 19 which has been developed by the premier institution of CCRAS, operating under the Ministry of Ayush.
  • This drug roots its origin in the year 1980 and it was used for the treatment of malaria and showed efficacy in stimulating a strong immune response against viral fever and other pathogenesis.
  • At the very onset of the first wave, the Ministry of Ayush and the CSIR conducted clinical trials. The benefits of Ayush – 64 were observed in the patients without any adverse effects. Doctor’s advice is recommended before taking the drug.

Therefore, the technology transfer will revamp and amplify the production of the drug with the assurance of a better line of treatment thereby adding on to the promotion of ayurvedic medicines.


5. Rani Laxmibai

Context: The Prime Minister remembered Rani Laxmi Bai on her birth anniversary as an emblem of courage and determination.
