Delhi Police Constable: Preparation Strategy

All the aspirants of the Delhi Police Constable Exam must follow a task-based study plan and stay committed to the goal of passing the exam. Candidates must be persistent and ambitious, but also need to have the right study plan, which can be developed by going through the past years’ exam papers. 

The following suggestions and tips will be helpful for candidates to make a good preparation strategy:

  • Understand the Exam Pattern and Exam Syllabus: There are four subjects and 100 questions total in the first phase of the exam. The test is computer-based, and the subjects included are General Intelligence and Reasoning, Aptitude for Maths and Computers, General Knowledge, and Awareness. The candidates will go through a physical examination in the second phase, which is followed by a medical test.

Candidates receive one mark for each answer that is correct and loses 0.25 marks for each answer that is incorrect. The duration of this test is 90 minutes (1 hrs and 30 minutes).   • This is the most scoring section of all the sections, for all the candidates. To increase the chances of scoring the highest marks in this section, candidates must focus on mental ability tests, coding-decoding problems, etc. 
  • There are 25 questions in this particular section, with questions on subjects like arithmetic reasoning, statements and assumptions, the alphabet series, problems with calculating ages, classification, a test of one’s sense of direction, blood relations, and more.
      • Candidates must carefully examine the questions in order to avoid confusion due to negative marking.
      • In order to minimise confusion and understand questions clearly, the applicants must use Venn diagrams, remember the sequence of alphabets, numerical positions of alphabets from 1st to 26th and also in reverse order. This will help to save time while solving questions.
      • Based on the analysis of last year’s paper at least three questions were asked on the alphabet topic with questions based on the word, letter and number, two questions were asked from the arithmetic reasoning, syllogism and blood relation section and at least 3 questions were asked on topics including counting figures, coding-decoding, figure formation and figure series
  • Tips for GK/ Current Affairs: 
      • The chances to score maximum marks in this section are the highest as this section contains the maximum weightage and takes less time to attempt more questions. 
      • The purpose of this section, which consists of 50 questions in total, is to assess the applicants’ general knowledge. 
      • The best way for candidates to prepare for this section is to read the newspaper every day and stay informed of current events. Other sources to stay updated are following the news and reading history books. 
      • There will be questions in the general knowledge part about India and its neighbouring nations on subjects like history, geography, dates, economics etc. 
      • The best tip to score better in this section is to focus on taking notes of the important dates and events and multiple revisions.
      • Based on the Previous paper analysis a total of six questions covering topics like ancient, medieval and modern history were asked in the category of history, four questions from Polity and Economics, six questions from Geography and almost ten questions from the General Science and Environment section. The rest of the questions were asked from the Current Affairs Section.
  • Tips for Numerical Ability:
      • The numerical ability section is all about practice and more practice as the section is based on solving questions which involve a lot of calculations.
      • The sections include questions on topics like Whole Numbers, Decimals and Fractions and the relationship between Numbers, Fundamental arithmetical operations, Percentages, Ratio and Proportion, etc. Hence, aspirants are advised to practise as many questions s they can to increase the speed and accuracy of calculations.

      • Based on the previous paper analysis, the majority of questions were asked on topics Number System, Divisibility and Remainder, Profit & Loss and Discount, and Simplification. There was at least one question on topics such as Mensuration, Identities, Surds and Indices, HCF and LCM, Partnership, Problems on Ages, Time and Work along with Speed and Time and Distance.
  • Tips for Computer Knowledge:
    • The computer Awareness section is the simplest of all the sections in the exam. It is the most rewarding section as the syllabus is limited and one can even aim to score full marks in it. 
    • The candidates need to focus on computer fundamentals to perform well in this section. 
    • There will be a total of 10 questions on topics like Basic of Computers, Computer Organization, Generations of computer, Input & Output Device, Shortcuts & Basic knowledge MS word, etc.
