CENTRAL ARMED POLICE FORCES(CAPF) Examination is conducted by UPSC(Union Public Service Commission) every year for the recruitment of Assistant Commandants (Group A) in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) viz. 

  • Border Security Force (BSF)
  • Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
  • Central Industrial Security Force(CISF)
  • Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) 
  • Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)

Union Public Service Commission released the UPSC CAPF 2023 Notification and application form for UPSC CAPF Exam 2023 on its official website on 26th April 2023. The UPSC CAPF exam is scheduled to be conducted on 06th August 2023. The selection will be done through Written-test, Physical tests, and Interview/Personality tests. The online application window has been opened from 26th April 2023 onwards. The last date to apply online for UPSC CAPF 2023 Exam is 16th May 2023.

The CAPF Result 2022 for the exam held on August 7, 2022, has been released by the Union Public Service Commission on 16th September 2022.

There are a total of 253 openings for Assistant Commandants (Group A) in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), including the Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

What is CAPF salary?

CAPF Assistant Commandant’s basic pay is Rs.56100/-  at entry level. He/She also gets other allowances also like DA, Transport Allowance, HRA etc. These officers start with level 10 in pay matrix of central government with grade pay of 5400.

There are 7 forces are under CAPF. They are Assam Rifles (AR), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), National Security Guard (NSG) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

Is CAPF Assistant Commandant Group A Job?

Yes CAPF Assistant Commandant is a Group A Job. Assistant commandants mostly retire at IG/DIG rank and pay band. Some of them reach up to the rank of additional director general.

Is there any negative marking in CAPF?

Yes, the CAPF exam for Assistant Commandant has a negative marking in Paper-I which is objective in nature. The paper consists of 125 questions and for each wrong answer, 1/3rd marks will be deducted.

How do I become a CISF commandant?

The aspirants of Assistant commandants in CISF have to attend the CAPF AC exam conducted every year by the UPSC. The candidates will be selected as CISF AC based on merit.
