Government schemes are an important part of polity and governance for the UPSC exam. It is necessary to read about the latest schemes and understand their objectives for the IAS exam.

SWAYAM or Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds programme is run by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, GOI. Professors of centrally funded institutions like IITs, IIMs and central universities will offer online courses to Indians. The courses would be delivered free of cost to those who need. However, if a candidate needs a certificate, a fee would be charged for that. 

In the first phase, IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, Delhi University, JNU, IIM Bangalore, IGNOU, IIM Calcutta, BHU with the help of faculty from foreign universities will be offering courses in areas of social science, engineering education, energy, basic sciences and management. The government expects at least 1 crore students to be benefitted out of this.
