1. Reintroduction of tigers in Madhav National Park

Context: Tigers were reintroduced in Madhav National Park, Madhya Pradesh.
Details:
- Two tigers, one each from Satpura Tiger Reserve and Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve were released into the specially created soft-release enclosures in Madhav National Park, Madhya Pradesh.
- One is a four-year male (from Satpura Tiger Reserve) and another is a half-year-year-old female (from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve).
- In order to re-establish the tiger population in Madhav National Park, the Madhya Pradesh Forest Department had prepared a plan for translocating 5 tigers (2 males and 3 females) from Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and Panna Tiger Reserve along with Bhopal surroundings.
- Three enclosures of 1.3 hectares have been constructed with the provision of water, shade, and natural tree cover.
- The newly introduced tigers will be constantly monitored and a veterinary doctor is also deployed with facilities like rescue vehicles, cages, immobilizing guns, and drugs.

Madhav National Park:
- It is one of the oldest national parks in Madhya Pradesh which was notified in 1956. It earlier had a sizeable tiger population but it declined drastically.
- The last reported presence of a tiger in the park was in 2012.
- It is spread over an area of 354.61 sq km.
- Madhav National Park is significant as it has the potential to connect the Panna Tiger Reserve of Madhya Pradesh with the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan.

2. MSME Competitive (LEAN) Scheme

Prelims: MSME Competitive (LEAN) Scheme.
Details:
- MSME Competitive (LEAN) scheme was launched by the Union Minister of MSME Shri Narayan Rane.
- It intends to provide a roadmap to global competitiveness for the MSMEs of the country.
- Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises will be assisted to reduce their manufacturing costs through proper personnel management, better space utilization, scientific inventory management, improved processed flows, reduced engineering time, etc.
- Apart from improving quality, productivity, and performance it will also change the mindsets of manufacturers and transform them into world-class traders.
- The scheme will encourage and incentivize MSMEs to attain LEAN levels and become MSME champions.
- Moreover, through LEAN, MSMEs can reduce wastage, increase productivity, improve quality, expand markets, and become competitive and profitable.
- In order to support MSMEs, the government will contribute 90% of the implementation cost for handholding and consultancy fees. An additional contribution of 5% will be provided if MSMEs are part of SFURTI clusters, owned by Women/SC/ST, or located in North East India.

3. India-USA 5th Commercial Dialogue 2023

Details:
- The US Secretary of Commerce, Gina Raimondo visited India (7th to 10th March 2023) to participate in the India-US bilateral Commercial Dialogue 2023.
- The dialogue is part of efforts to strengthen the US-India Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
- During the meeting, it was highlighted that the goods and services trade between the two countries has almost doubled since 2014 and has surpassed the $191 billion recorded in 2022.
- The U.S. secretary further appreciated India for taking measures like National Infrastructure Pipeline and PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on establishing a semiconductor supply chain and innovation partnership.

Other Outcomes of the Dialogue:
- In order to support Small and Medium Enterprises, both sides announced the launch of a new Working Group on Talent, Innovation, and Inclusive Growth under the Commercial Dialogue.Â
- The Travel and Tourism Working group was re-launched.Â
- In advancing the standards cooperation, the Standards and Conformance Cooperation Program (Phase III) to be carried out in partnership between ANSI (American National Standard Institute) from the US side and BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) from the Indian side was also introduced.
- A strategic trade dialogue was launched to address export control and technology transfer between the two countries.
- India and U.S. also pledged to collaborate in the Global Biofuels Alliance and in the development and implementation of hydrogen technologies.
- The USA will send Clean Energy and Environmental Technology Business Development Mission to India in 2024.
- Both sides have also expressed interest in developing next-generation standards in telecommunications including 6G.
- An announcement was also made regarding U.S.-India Energy Industry Network (EIN).
