IIT Bombay

IIT Bombay is one of the top IIT colleges in India. The institute was founded in the year 1958 with funding from a foreign organization such as the UNESCO. Since its establishment, the institute has grown both in terms of strength and popularity in the country as well as globally. Currently, the IIT is included and ranked among the top technical institutes across the globe in the field of engineering education and research.

With such a reputation, the institution attracts a lot of students from different states of the country. The IIT also offers a wide variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programs including bachelors, masters and doctoral programs. The institution also offers short-term courses and distance education programmes. Backed by highly efficient faculty members, the institution focuses on providing the best learning culture to its students.

In terms of infrastructure, IIT Bombay is a type of a residential campus with a total of 15 hostels, in-house dining and the institute also offers sports and other recreational facilities. However, we will look at some of the important information about the institution in the following paragraphs.

All About IIT Bombay Courses, Cutoff and Placements

IIT Bombay Admission

While IITB is a dream college for many engineering aspirants, there are several ways that candidates can seek admission in this institute. We will look at them below.

For B.Tech courses, the admission is done based on the scores that the candidates achieve in the JEE exam. Candidates have to appear for both JEE Main and JEE Advanced and secure a high score and rank to get into the institution as the seats are limited. Students who are selected are usually called for counselling. After the selection is done candidates have to submit the required fees and documents. 

For M.Tech courses, the admission in IIT Bombay is largely granted on the basis of the GATE exam. Shortlisting is done based on the scores of the students in the exam. There is also another round where group discussion or interviews are held. There is also an exception for candidates. Students with IIT B.Tech. degree and a CGPA OF 8.0 and above are exempted from GATE score requirements.

Additionally, IIT Bombay also takes into account other entrance examination for admission and pre-qualification of students for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

  • CEED (Common Entrance Exam for Design) is designed for M. Des and PhD programmes.
  • UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam in Design) is conducted for B.Des programs.
  • JAM (Joint Admission Test) is held for M.Sc courses.
