Solution:
Tory has seven green apples. The number 7 can not be evenly divided by the number 2. This means that the number of green apples Tory has is an odd number.
The number of red apples she has is one more than the total number of green apples. In other words,
Total number of red apples = 7 + 1 = 8 apples
The number 8 can be evenly divided by the number 2. This means that the total number of red apples Tory has is an even number.
Example 2: There are an even number of 10 chocolate pieces in a chocolate bar. If one piece of chocolate is broken from the entire bar, are the remaining number of chocolate pieces odd or even?
Solution:
If 1 is reduced from 10 we are left with 9 chocolate pieces. 9 cannot be evenly divided by the number 2. This means that the number is odd. So the remaining number of pieces that are obtained after reducing a piece of chocolate from a bar of chocolate is odd.
Example 3: Jimmy was given two boxes filled with green and purple balls. Help Jimmy figure if the number of balls in the boxes are odd or even.

Box 1 has 4 balls.
