The multiples of 25 are those numbers that we get as a result of multiplying 25 by any natural number, such as 1, 2, 3, …
For example, if we multiply 25 by 3, the product will be 75. So, we can say that 75 is a multiple of 25.
The multiples of 25 can be expressed in the form of 25n, where n is a natural number, n = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, …
The multiples of 25 will be:
25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, …
Also, we can observe that the difference between two consecutive multiples of 25 is 25,
50 – 25 = 25,
75 – 50 = 25,
100 – 75 = 25, and so on.
For example, 250, 275 and 300 are all multiples of 25 because we can get all these numbers by multiplying 25 by a natural number.
Repeated addition means adding a number to itself multiple times. Repeated addition can also be used to determine the multiples of any number.
We can find the multiples of 25 through repeated addition in the following way:
The first ten multiples of 25 are the products of 25 and the first ten natural numbers.
Example 1: Rhena needs 100 balloons for a school dance. The balloons come in packs of 23 and packs of 25. Which pack does she need to buy so she has no extra balloons left?
Solution:
To figure out which pack of balloons she needs to buy, we need to check which number out of 23 and 25 divides 100 exactly. That is, 100 is a multiple of which number.
Use division to determine whether 100 is a multiple of 25 or not.
100 \(\div\) 25 = 4 R0
The remainder is 0, so 25 is a factor of 100. Hence, 100 is a multiple of 25.
Similarly, use division to determine whether 100 is a multiple of 23 or not.
100 \(\div\) 23 = 4 R8
The remainder is 8, so 23 is not a factor of 100. Hence, 100 is not a multiple of 23.
So, to have no extra balloons left, Rhena would need to buy a pack of 25 balloons.
Example 2: Is 110 a multiple of 25?
Solution:
List the multiples of 25: 25, 50, 75, 100, 125, …
110 is not included in the list of the multiples of 25.
Also, \(\frac{110}{25}\) = 4 R10 we get a remainder of 10. Hence, 25 is not a factor of 110.
So, 110 is not a multiple of 25.
Example 3: How can division be used to show that 50 is a multiple of 25?
Solution:
On dividing 50 by 25, we get,
\(\frac{50}{25}\) = 2 R0
We get 0 as the remainder, so 25 is a factor of 50.
Hence, 50 is a multiple of 25.
A multiple of a given natural number is defined as the product of multiplying the natural number by any natural number.
The first 10 multiples of 25 are:
25, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 175, 200, 225, 250.
So, the 5th multiple of 25 is 125.
A number can have an infinite number of multiples, as there are infinite natural numbers to multiply the given number with.
The factor of a number is an integer which can divide the number evenly, whereas the multiple of a number is obtained when the given number is multiplied by any natural number.
