What are Number Names?
Numbers are used to count, measure and calculate. We often use numbers to label as well. Numbers are arithmetic values that can be represented as words or symbols. The representation of numbers in words is called number names.
How to Write the Number Names?
Number names are based upon the place values of digits in a number.
For single digit numbers, that is, from 1 to 9 the number names need to be memorized.
To write the names of the numbers from 10 to 20, 20 to 30, and so on, it is essential to have a proper understanding of place values. For example:
1 – 1 is at the ones place.
10 – 1 is at the tens place and 0 at the ones place.
102 – 1 is at the hundreds place, 0 at the tens place and 2 at the ones place.

Let’s simplify the given equation
= 16 + 8 – (1 + 9)
= 16 + 8 – (10) [Add]
= 24 – (10) [Add]
= 14 [Subtract]
By using numbers in words in 1 to 30 table, 14 can be written as:
Number + teen = Four + teen = Fourteen
Therefore, the answer is fourteen.
Example 2:
What will be the value of twenty-two minus thirteen?
Solution:
The given equation is in the form of numbers in words, that is twenty-two minus thirteen.
In numerical form, twenty-two is written as 22 and thirteen as 13.
Then,
\(\Rightarrow\) 22 – 13 = 9 [Subtract]
Therefore, the value of twenty-two minus thirteen is nine or 9.
Example 3:
Find the value of twenty-four divided by three.
Solution:
As we can see the equation is in the form of numbers in words, twenty-four divided by 3.
Converting it in numerals, that is \(\frac{24}{3}\).
Then,
\(\Rightarrow\) \(\frac{24}{3}\) = 8 [Divide]
Thus, the value of twenty-four divided by three is eight or 8.
