A player’s height must be at least 60 inches in order to be selected for an upcoming sports event. Alan, who stands 160 cm tall, wants to take part in the event. Convert Alan’s height from centimeters to inches to see if he can be selected.
Solution:
Given, Alan’s height = 160 cm
To convert Alan’s height from centimeters to inches, let’s use the formula:
Value (in) = \(\frac{\text{Value(cm)}}{2.54}\)
Then,
Height (in) = \(\frac{160}{2.54}\)
= \(\frac{160\times100}{2.54\times100}\) Remove the decimal by multiplying 100 to the numerator and denominator.
= \(\frac{16000}{254}\) Simplify.
= 62.99

As a result, Alan is 63 inches tall and is eligible for selection.
