What Are Roman Numerals?

Roman numerals are defined as a special way of representing numbers with the help of Latin or Roman letters. Roman numerals were first used almost 2000 years ago in Rome. 

Here are some numbers along with their representation in Roman numerals:

How Do We Write Numbers as Roman Numerals?

The seven letter method is used to represent numbers as Roman numerals. The different combinations of these letters form Roman numerals for all numerical values.

Roman numerals are expressed in either ‘uppercase’ or ‘lowercase’ letters.

 

When a numeral is followed by a value that is equal or lesser, their values are added together. For example, ⅩⅤⅠ in Roman numerals represents 16 when written as a natural number. Here, corresponds to 10, that we add with ⅤⅠ, which corresponds to 6.
