NCERT Solutions Class 8 Geography Book All Chapters Brief:

Chapter 1 – Resources

Any substance or object that satisfies a need is called a resource. Utility or usability is what makes them a resource. All resources have a value (worth) – some have economic value while others do not. However, some resources can become economically valuable with time. Meanwhile, resources are generally classified into natural, human-made and human. Students of Class 8 can explore concepts related to Resources in Chapter 1 of Geography.

Chapter 2 – Land, Soil, Water, Natural Vegetation and Wildlife Resources

Usually, the land, type of soil and water available in the region influence the lifestyle of the people living in a place. Land, soil and water are the most important abiotic resources, whereas natural vegetation and wildlife resources come under biotic resources. Meanwhile, be it the biotic or abiotic resources, both are exhaustible in nature. Hence, there has to be judicial use of these resources to enhance their longevity. Chapter 2 of CBSE Class 8 Geography discusses these topics.

Chapter 3 – Mineral and Power Resources

Since India has a varied geological structure, the country is enriched with a wide variety of mineral resources. A naturally occurring substance with a definite chemical composition is called a mineral. Minerals are not evenly distributed over space but scattered throughout the earth’s rocky crust. There are above three thousand different minerals. Minerals are classified mainly as metallic or non-metallic minerals on the basis of their composition. CBSE Class 8 Geography Chapter 3 deals with concepts related to these.

Chapter  4 – Agriculture

Agriculture is a primary activity that consists of growing crops, fruits, vegetables, flowers and rearing livestock.  Accounting for 23% of the GDP, it employed 59% of the country’s total workforce in 2016. Nearly 70% of rural households still depend primarily on agriculture for their livelihood, with 82% of farmers being small and marginal.  As per the Union Budget, the Ministry of Agriculture has been allocated Rs 1,30,485 crore for the year 2019-20. This budgetary estimate is 140% higher than that for 2018-19 at Rs 57,600 crore, primarily due to Rs 75,000 crore allocation to PM-Kisan. Students can further learn about the importance of Agriculture from Chapter 4 of CBSE Class 8 Geography.

Chapter 5 – Industries

The industry refers to an economic activity dealing with the manufacture of goods, extraction of minerals or the provision of services. Meanwhile, industries can also be classified on the basis of raw materials, size and ownership. Indian Industrial sector includes manufacturing, mining, electricity, and construction. Following the economic crisis in 2008, Indian Industrial sector showed considerable recovery and steady growth for three years. To learn more about the classification of Industries and factors affecting the location of industries, students can refer to Chapter 5 of CBSE Class 8 Geography.

Chapter 6 – Human Resources

Nature’s bounty becomes significant only when people – the nation’s greatest resource – find it useful. It is people with their demands and abilities that turn them into ‘resources’. For this reason, Human resource is the ultimate resource. But, it is not equally distributed over the world. They differ in their educational levels, age and sex. Their numbers and characteristics also keep changing. Chapter 6 of CBSE Class 8 Geography helps the students explore further about the concepts related to the topic of Human Resources.
