# World’s Largest Solar Plant - Bhadla Solar Plant

Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan is the largest solar power plant in India and the world. It is a solar photovoltaic power plant. The project was started in 2015. Around $1.4 billion have been invested into this project. It is spread over a total area of 5,700 hectares or 14,000 acres in Bhadla, Phalodi tehsil, Jodhpur district, Rajasthan, India. The park has a total capacity of 2245 MW and comprises 10 million solar panels. This vast project has gone through 4 phases of construction. The solar panels of this project are cleaned by robots and monitored by humans. Aspirants preparing for IAS Exam should keep themselves updated with the latest developments in the field of renewable energy. Saurya Urja Company of Rajasthan, which is a joint venture of the government of Rajasthan and IL&FS Energy Development Company, has developed 1000 MW of the project. Another 500 MW has been developed by Adani Renewable Energy Park, which is a joint venture between Adani Enterprises and the Government of Rajasthan. When its total capacity is operational, the park will become the world’s largest fully commissioned project, with investment rising to Rs 10,000 crore (US$1.3 billion).

### Bhadla Solar Park as a Site of Renewable Energy Production

The average temperature in Bhadla is around 46 to 48 degrees, with the climate being sandy, dry, and arid with frequent sandstorms. This kind of climate is generally uninhabitable and makes it ideal for tapping solar energy and generating massive amounts of energy.

With a burgeoning population and growing demand for fuels, projects like Bhadla Solar Park are helping our country reduce its dependence on fossil fuels. It has enabled us to explore renewable energy as an alternative source and is also driving economic growth and job creation around the surrounding areas.

A lot of employment has been generated simultaneously with the advent of workers in the renewable energy sector. Around 0.2 billion Indians still live without electricity, making the demand for energy a vital necessity. The project also aims to provide below poverty line households in the area with basic electricity. It also aims to generate more employment for the locals as well as upgrade the infrastructure of schools and basic amenities for students of the local schools in the area.

### Benefits of Developing Renewable Energy Sources

India is one of the fastest-growing populations and economies, and there is an increasing demand for electricity and energy. There are a lot many benefits of developing renewable energy resources. Moreover, solar energy is clean. It does not pollute the environment.

As long as there is sunshine, energy can be harnessed and deployed anywhere. This kind of energy is useful in remote areas where people have no access to electricity.

Job creation is another advantage of solar power plants. A large part of the cost associated with solar systems comes from installing the panels. This contributes to local job creation. Using solar panels, thus, boosts the economy and has a positive impact on communities at a micro-level.

Many countries are switching to cleaner energy resources, as other energy sources are generally responsible for global warming and, consequently, climate changes. Solar infrastructure projects like Bhadla Solar Park in Rajasthan will help reduce the burden on the infrastructure caused by fossil fuels. A decline in the cost of solar panels and low-cost loans in this sector will help develop solar energy, a cleaner and much healthier alternative compared to other energy sources. Reducing the use of fossil fuels has improved the quality of air, especially in cities. Sunlight, wind, and biogas are other important renewable energy sources.
