The Forest Rights Act is also called the Tribal Rights Act or the Tribal Land Act. It deals with the rights of the communities that dwell in the forests over land and other resources, which have been denied to them over the years because of the continuation of forest laws from the colonial era in the country.
Enthusiasts of this act say that it will right the historical wrongs committed against forest dwellers. It will also include provisions which will make for more effective and transparent conservation efforts. There have been demonstrations by hundreds of thousands of people in demand for this bill.
