The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, also known as GSEB, is the education board in Gujarat. The GSEB was formed on the basis of ‘The Gujarat Secondary Education Act 1972 (ગુજરાત માધ્યમિક શિક્ષણ અધિનિયમ 1972),‘ which is also known as the Gujarat Act No. 18 of 1973. The GSEB is in charge of deciding the syllabus, curriculum, and textbooks and conducting examinations for students in Class 1 to Class 12.

History of GSEB

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB) was formed due to ‘The Gujarat Secondary Education Act 1972′. The GSEB is in charge of determining the policy-related, administrative, cognitive, and intellectual direction of the state’s secondary and higher-secondary educational system.

GSEB (Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board) is responsible for the functions of Classes 1 to 12. Additionally, it also prescribes the study materials and conducts the examinations for all these classes. 

Functions of Gujarat State Board

The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board is in charge of conducting the state-level exam in Gujarat. It is also responsible for devising a well-oriented syllabus for secondary-level schools and the textbooks which cover the complete syllabus. The GSEB also evaluates the performance of the affiliated schools by inspecting them. Here is a list of the functions and responsibilities of the GSEB.

Gujarat Board Grading Pattern:

GSEB has updated its ranking system. Before 2011 every student’s rank studying under the Gujarat board was based on percentage. Now it is changed to percentile. How to calculate percentile rank? Firstly, subtract the percentile from the 100. The second step is to multiply the answer given in Step 1 with the total number of candidates who appeared in the batch. The last step is to divide the answer in step 2 by 100. In this way, a student’s rank can be determined.
