Close to 110 persons were killed and close to 400 injured fatally in the explosive tragedy in Kerala.
- Disaster happened in the crowded grounds of the Puttingal Devi Temple at Paravur, south of Kollam district of Kerala
- Deposit of fire crackers meant to be burst to mark the close of the temple festival exploded, killing over 40 persons instantly while causing extensive damage to nearby buildings.
- The explosion that followed brought down a building and caused damage to several structures in the vicinity.
The State government has called for a judicial inquiry and a Crime Branch investigation into the disaster.
