Decimals are one of the special types of numbers that have whole numbers and fractional parts separated by a decimal point. We get decimals if a number is not completely divisible by another number.

There are two types of decimals:

  • Non recurring decimals or terminating decimals. Decimals terminate after a certain finite number of terms and do not reoccur.
  • Recurring decimals or non terminating decimals. Decimals do not terminate after a certain finite number of terms and reoccur for infinite times.

The dividing decimal worksheets can have both the types of decimal as result. However, this may depending on the tags easy, medium and hard. Easy and medium dividing decimal worksheets primarily deal with non-recurring decimals.

The dividing decimal worksheets help child get insight into how dividing decimals works through detailed solution steps. They observe how if we divide the decimal number by a whole number we divide it as dividing for whole numbers, writing in standard form then putting decimal in quotient above dividend decimal and bring down the tenth of the fractional part.  However, in dividing decimal either the divisor or dividend or both will be a decimal number.  Some of the dividing decimal worksheets through their questions and solution will also highlight how if we divide the decimal by decimal then first we have to multiply both the divisor and dividend with the power of 10 and the exponent will be equal to the number of decimal digits in the divisor. So, the divisor is converted into a whole number that now dividing will be same as dividing decimal by whole number.
