Indian Institutes of Technology or just IITs are considered to be top engineering institutes that one can study in India. They are mainly autonomous institutes set up by the government for imparting higher education to students who are interested in technology and engineering. IITs are chosen by most of the students to pursue B.Tech courses. Currently, there are a total of 23 IITs in India.
The admission for IITs is carried out through entrance exams namely Joint Entrance Exams or JEE. Candidates have to appear and clear the exam which is divided into two phases – JEE Main and Advanced. Candidates have to qualify in both exams to secure a seat in an institution. Most of the time the IIT admission process is highly competitive as lakhs of candidates appear for the exam every year and there are limited seats. Normally the exams are also quite difficult themselves.
The institutions offer various courses from B.Tech courses to various Doctoral programmes. There are M. Tech programmes also and admissions are mostly done through the GATE exam. In any case, IITs help to develop a solid foundation of scientific and technical knowledge and mould motivated engineers and scientists.
