NSTSE- National Level Science Talent Search Examination
The National Level Science Talent Search Examination (NSTSE) is a skill test conducted by the Unified Council, a professionally managed progressive organisation, with its objective to identify and nurture the best brains of the country in the science discipline. Being a curriculum based examination, the NSTSE critically assess a student’s strengths and weaknesses on the basis of concepts. Unlike regular examinations, it measures what and how well a student has understood the fundamentals, not his capability to memorise the existing facts. The Unified Council has been successfully conducting NSTSE in India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Yemen, Indonesia, Oman, Kuwait, Russia, Nepal, Libya, Bahrain, Iran and Tanzania. Since its inception in 1998, the Council has been working consistently towards testing and promoting talented young minds instilling a competitive spirit among them and ensuring their bright and enterprising future through tests like NSTSE. NSTSE – Eligibility Students of classes I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI (PCM), XI (PCB), XII (PCM) and XII (PCB) can participate, provided their schools are registered with the NSTSE. However, individual entries are also accepted in case the school is not tied up with the NSTSE. The registration forms, prospectus and all other relevant details regarding the event are sent out to the registered schools. A nominal participation fee of Rs 200 is charged. NSTSE Exam Pattern The NSTSE exam is a 90-minutes MCQ patterned test. The question paper is a different for each class. The NTSE syllabus is the one prescribed by the CBSE, ICSE and various state boards. However, NSTSE sample papers are also available online. There is no negative marking for the wrong answers.
NSTSE – Selection Procedure
The NSTSE exam is conducted at two levels.
• Level 1 is conducted at the schools and selected test centres. The top 500 participants from class II to XII across the nation along with top 20 from each class are selected for Level 2.
• Level 2 is conducted at the nearest State Head quarters on the basis of which the final NSTSE results are declared
Level 2 is not held for the students of standard I
NSTSE – Results and Ranking
The performance of a participant is gauged on the basis of his individual score compiled in a Student Performance Report (SPR). The SPR provides a detailed analysis of strong and weak areas of the student along with a performance comparison at school, state and national level. Consolidated reports per subject and class are sent to the schools. The NSTSE results are also made available at its official website.
NSTSE – Rewards
Top 100 rankers are declared as ALL INDIA achievers. State wise and city wise (for selected cities) achievers are declared. School and class toppers are also declared.
The student who achieves the highest percentage of marks among all classes is the NSTSE topper and is awarded with Rs 200,000 cash prize. All National, State & City Rankers are awarded a voucher worth Rs 400. Participation Certification is provided to each student.
