Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) - 2023 | Question Paper

The Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) question paper is divided into two parts, i.e. Part-A and Part-B. The Part-A of the question paper contains questions that require logical thinking, analysis and solution-finding skills of the candidates. Part-B is purely the Drawing and Sketching part. The candidates will be offered to draw either a person, object or situation-based sketch.

UCEED 2023 Question Paper

In order to prepare well for the examination, the candidates must be aware of the question paper pattern, types of questions, marks carried by each question and negative marking (if any). Therefore, candidates must note the following points about the UCEED question paper:

  1. The total duration of the UCEED 2023 examination is three hours. There will be only one question paper.
  2. The medium of the question paper is English.
  3. The maximum marks of the UCEED 2023 question paper are 300.
  4. The candidates must attempt both parts of the question paper compulsorily.
  5. The UCEED question papers are screened strictly in order to avoid any errors. However, if any error is detected in the paper, in that case, the UCI committee shall decide the action to be taken after conducting the UCEED examination. The decision of the UCI committee will be final and binding.

Details of Part-A of the Question Paper

The following details are provided by UCEED for Part-A of the question paper:

  1. The total marks of the Part-A of the question paper are 240 marks, and the maximum time for Part-A is 2 hours 30 minutes.
  2. Part-A will be a Computer-based Test (CBT).
  3. Part-A consists of three sections.

The details of Sections 1, 2 and 3 of Part-A of the UCEED question paper are given here below:

Section 1: The section contains a total of 18 questions carrying 4 marks each, with no negative marking. The questions are of Numerical Answer Type (NAT), with no choices provided for these questions. The answer to these questions will be a number that needs to be entered using the virtual keyboard shown on the computer monitor.

Section 2: This section consists of 18 Multiple Select Questions (MSQs). There will be four options for each question, out of which one or more choices may be correct.

The marking scheme of Section 2 is given hereunder.

  • Full Marks (+4): Provided only when all the correct option(s) are chosen and no wrong option is chosen.
  • Partial Marks (+3): Provided when only three out of all four correct options are chosen, and none of the incorrect options is chosen.
  • Partial Marks (+2): Provided when only 2 correct options are chosen out of the three or more correct options. Also, none of the incorrect options is chosen.
  • Partial Marks (+1): Provided when only 1 correct option is chosen out of the two or more correct options. Also, none of the incorrect options is chosen.
  • Zero Marks (0): Provided when the candidate leaves the question unanswered, i.e. no option is chosen.
  • Negative Marks (-1): In all the other cases, apart from the ones described above, there will be a deduction of 1 mark.

Section 3: This section consists of 32 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), carrying 3 marks each. A negative marking of 0.71 per question will be applied for each incorrect answer. In every question, four options will be given, out of which only 1 option is the correct answer to the question.

Details of Part-B of the Question Paper

The total marks for Part-B are 60, and the maximum time provided is 30 minutes. This part of the question paper consists of only 1 question that is aimed at assessing the candidate’s drawing skills. While Part-A has to be done entirely on the computer, the question for Part-B will appear on the computer screen, but the answer to it must be drawn/written on the sheet of paper (answer book) provided by the invigilator.

Note: The use of a scribe or assistance for the PWD candidates is not allowed, as this part of the examination is aimed at testing the candidate’s drawing skills.

The following points must be noted by the candidates regarding Part-B of the examination:

  1. The Part-B answer books must be submitted to the invigilator and hence are collected at the end of the examination.
  2. Part-B must be attempted compulsorily.

Both the parts, i.e. Part-A and Part-B must be performed within the stipulated time for each part.
