Question

1mole of Rhombic Sulphur is treated with conc.HNO3. Find the mass of H2O formed.

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Write the balanced chemical equation between Rhombic Sulphur (S8) and conc.HNO3:

S8+48HNO3ā†’8H2SO4+48NO2+16H2O

From the above balanced equation, the number of moles of H2O is nH2O=16moles

Step 2: Find the mass of H2O:

MassofH2O=NumberofmolesofH2OƗMolecularweightofH2Oā‡’MassofH2O=16molƗ18gmol-1ā‡’MassofH2O=288g

Therefore, the mass of H2O formed when Rhombic Sulphur and conc.HNO3 are reacted with each other is w(H2O)=288g.
