Step 2. The formula used: Apparent acceleration halfway below the surface of the earth, g'=g(1-hR)where,h is the height below the surface of the earth, Ris the radius of the earth, gis the acceleration due to gravity.

Step 3: Calculate the apparent weight at the equator,

W'=W(1-hR)

At halfway below the surface of the earth, h=R2

So, W'=500(1-R/2R) =500(1-12)N= 250N
