Solution

The correct option is A

595N

Step 1: Given Data and assumptions:

Mass of person, M=80kg

Mass of parachute, m=5kg

Downward acceleration, a=2.8ms-2

Acceleration due to gravity, g=9.8ms-2

Let, the upward force act on the parachute is F

Fg is taken as positive because it is the force acting due to gravitation. So it is acting in the downward direction.

Fa is taken as negative because it is the force acting in the upward direction.

Step 2: Formula used:

Newton's 2nd law,

F=ma

Where, F=the net force acting on the body

m=mass of the body

a=acceleration of the body

Step 3: Calculating the force:

M+mg-F=M+ma

80+5×9.8-F=80+5×2.8

F=85×9.8-85×2.8

=85×9.8-2.8

=85×7

=595N

Hence, option A is the correct answer.
