A permanent magnet is an object made from a material that is magnetized and creates its own persistent magnetic field.
They do not lose their magnetism easily
Steel as a permanent magnet
Steel is an alloy made up of Carbon and iron. Generally, Steel is not magnetic, but it can be modified to become magnetic in nature.
When a nonmagnetic piece of steel is applied to a magnet, the atoms within it rearrange themselves in a manner that creates a permanent magnetic field. As the atoms become aligned, they create a magnetic field that doesn’t lose its strength.
So, we conclude that steel can be used to make permanent magnets.
