Question

How does the kinetic theory explain Charles Law?

Open in App
Solution

The kinetic theory according to Charles Law

  1. According to kinetic theory, the motion of particles increases as the temperature is increased. Due to this pressure also increases by increased collision of particles. If the container size is increased, the collision rate will be maintained and pressure will be constant.
  2. Charles Law is the law in which the temperature is directly proportional to the volume of the container at constant pressure.
  3. Charles law at constant pressure,

PV=nRThere,nandRso,TV1T1=V2T2are constants.
Thus, Kinetic energy explains Charles Law for ideal gas at constant pressure V1T1=V2T2
