A peroxide is a compound containing an oxygen-oxygen single bond. The simplest stable peroxide is hydrogen peroxide. For example, The most common peroxide is hydrogen peroxide, Sodium peroxide (Na2O2), and Barium peroxide (BaO2).

Types of Peroxides:

  1. Peroxy Acids: The peroxy derivatives of many familiar acids eg: Pancreatic acid.
  2. Metal peroxides: A metal oxide is a compound formed by the reaction of a metal and oxygen e.g magnesium reacts with oxygen to form magnesium oxide.

3. Organic peroxides: A carbon-based compound containing a “peroxy” group (two oxygen atoms joined together -O-O-).

Uses of Most common Peroxide i.e Hydrogen Peroxide(H2O2)

  1. It is used as a disinfectant.
  2. It is used to clean cuts.
  3. It is used to clean dishes.
  4. We can use it for beauty purposes.
  5. We can use it to clean the refrigerator.
  6. We can use it to clean our refrigerator.
