Question

Is calamine carbonate ore?

Open in App
Solution

Calamine: Calamine is made up of two different minerals.

  • One of which contains Carbonate and the other is not Carbonated.
  • ZnCO3 is a formula for Calamine.
  • Because the Zinc in ZnCO3 coexists with the Carbonate, it is used for the extraction process of Zinc and not to Carbonate.
  • The chemical formula of Calamine mineral is Zn4Si2O7(OH)2H2O.
  • Since no Carbonate is present in the mineral of Calamine, there is no possibility of it being a Carbonate ore.
  • Therefore, Calamine is not an ore of Carbonate, it is an ore of Zinc.
