Is salt a solute?

Open in App
Solution

  1. Since salt dissolves in water, seawater is a type of mixture called a solution.
  2. In this reaction, water acts as both solvent and solute.
  3. Salt dissolves in water when the sodium and chloride ions in the crystal are drawn in by the water molecules and dissociate.
  4. The solute particles are separated by solvent particles, which are dispersed within the solvent.
  5. A solution is something that contains salt, as in the illustration below, seawater. In salt water solution, salt is soluble and water is solvent.

Hence, salt is a solute.
