  4. They are found in aquatic habitats and moist terrestrial habitats.
  5. The fossil of diatoms deposited or accumulated in the deep ocean is known as “diatomaceous earth”.

Cell wall of diatoms:

  1. The cell wall of diatoms is filled with sand which is called a frustule.
  2. The frustule is differentiated as epitheca valves and hypotheca valves.
  3. Both valves are thin and arranged together with overlapping shells that look like a soap case.
