What are conic sections used for?
Conic section is defined as the curve obtained from the intersection of the surface of a cone and the plane. The types of conic sections obtained through this intersection are parabola, hyperbola, circle and ellipse. Some of the uses of conic sections are listed below:
With Sun as the focus, the paths of the planets around the Sun form ellipses.
In the navigation system, hyperbolas are used to find the long-range navigation.
In the design of searchlights, radio-telescopes and some optical telescopes, the reflective properties of the conic sections have great use.
