Solution

Ionic compound:

  1. An ionic compound is made of ions, charged particles formed when an atom or group of atoms acquire or lose electrons.
  2. Ionic compounds form by two ways:
    Metal+NonmetalIoniccompound
    Metal+PolyatomicionIoniccompound

Types of ionic compounds:

  1. Sodium chloride: It is an ionic compound with the chemical formula of NaCl and it is mostly used as an ordinary table salt. It is formed by Sodium metal cation (Na+) and Chloride nonmetal anion (Cl-).
  2. Potassium phosphate: It is an inorganic chemical with the molecular formula of K3PO4 and it used as a food additives. It is formed by Potassium metal cation (K+) and Phosphate nonmetal anion (PO43-).
  3. Magnesium sulfate: It is also an inorganic compound with a molecular formula of MgSO4 and it is added to purified water. It is formed by Magnesium metal cation (Mg2+) and Sulphate nonmetal anion (SO42-).
