Question

What Causes Enthalpy To Increase?

Open in App
Solution

Enthalpy

  1. Enthalpy is defined as the heat energy in a system. Enthalpy is equal to the sum of the total internal energy of the system and the product of pressure and volume.
  2. It is denoted by H.
  3. Mathematically H=U+PVwhereH=EnthalpyofthesystemU=TotalinernalenergyP=PressureV=Volume

Factors affecting enthalpy

  1. Physical state of Reactant and products- The enthalpy of the system changes when the Physical state of reactant and products changes. This is due to the release of Heat.
  2. Number of Reactants- When we increase the number of reactants, the enthalpy also increases.
  3. Temperature and Pressure- If we increase the temperature and pressure the enthalpy also increases.
