1. The loss of electrons from an atom, molecule or ion is known as oxidation.
2. Oxidation can also be defined as the gain of Oxygen and loss of Hydrogen.
3. The increase in the oxidation state of an atom, molecule or ion is known as oxidation.
4. Example of oxidation- When Magnesium reacts with Oxygen forms Magnesium oxide ($\mathbf{MgO}$)$2\mathrm{Mg}\left(\mathrm{s}\right)+{\mathrm{O}}_2\left(\mathrm{g}\right)\to 2\mathrm{MgO}\left(\mathrm{s}\right)$
5. Rusting of iron is also an example of oxidation. Here, Iron reacts with Oxygen to form Iron (III) oxide.
