What does bias mean?

Solution

Semiconductor:

  1. A semiconductor material has an electrical conductivity value falling between that of a conductor, such as metallic copper, and an insulator, such as glass. Its resistivity falls as its temperature rises; metals behave in the opposite way.

Diode:

  1. A diode is a two-terminal electronic component that conducts current primarily in one direction; it has low resistance in one direction, and high resistance in the other.

Bias:

  1. Biasing, in general, is defined as an arrangement made in the diode or an electrical device to allow a larger flow of current in a certain direction. Usually, a device or more precisely a diode can be connected to a source in different ways.
  2. There are two types of biasing
  3. Forward biasing: When P side of the diode is connected to the positive terminal of the battery.
  4. Reverse Bias: When P side of the diode is connected to the negative terminal of the battery.
