What does hydrogen bonding do in water?

  1. When Hydrogen is bonded with a more electronegative atom dipole-dipole interaction is present among them.
  2. This type of bonding is seen when it is bonded with Oxygen, Nitrogen, etc.
  3. There may be two types of Hydrogen bonding that occur and those are as follows: Intermolecular Hydrogen bonding and Intramolecular Hydrogen bonding.
  4. Intermolecular Hydrogen bonding occurs in two separate molecules, for example, water and alcohol.
  5. In the case of intramolecular Hydrogen bonding the bonding takes place within the same molecule.
  6. In water molecule 4 hydrogen bonds are formed i.e. two are with the same molecule and two with neighboring molecules.
