What faults are common with inductors?

Open in App
Solution

The faults which are common in inductors are:

  1. Inductor is a component used for the storage of electrical energy in the form of magnetic energy.
  2. It uses a conductor that is wound into a coil, and when electricity flows into the coil from the left to the right, this will generate a magnetic field in the clockwise direction.
  3. Inductor getting short, due to extreme stress in an electrical network: When high range of current flows through an inductor coil, the inductor gets heated up, thereby it is short.
  4. Issues due to potting: Potting refers to accumulation of all electrical components on a fixture, in order to protect it from corrosion and moisture, but due to potting inductor gets damaged.
  5. Quality of the magnetic wire used is not good: A special type of wire is used in a inductor this wire is called as a magnetic wire, they are not enclosed by any shield, therefore they can be easily damaged.
  6. Not resistant towards corrosion: Inductor wires are not protected therefore have no resistance towards corrosion.
